Wild turkey

A tom turkey picks through the weeds at Myakka River State Park, where these birds are safe from hunters.

My younger daughter Ellissa was here visiting recently. She loves the outdoors and nature, so off we went to Myakka River State Park. The target bird was the roseate spoonbill and the target reptile was, of course, the alligator.

It was a perfect day for a little hike. The weather was in the 70s, there was a nice breeze, and clouds were in and out covering the sun. As we departed, a CooperÃÛ·èÖ±²¥ hawk flew right in front of the car. I took this as a good omen.
